Official matchmaking is only part of Counter-Strike 2. Community CS2 servers run modes Valve doesn't offer, or play by different rules, often with the same regulars night after night. You can join from the in-game server browser or by typing connect followed by the address in the console.
Retake servers loop site retake scenarios over and over, which makes them great practice. Deathmatch and aim/arena servers sharpen your aim, while surf, bhop and KZ servers are all about movement and times. For something lighter there's Jailbreak, Zombie Escape, minigames and fun servers. More competitive players look for 5v5 or PUG servers with rules close to competitive play. Most of these modes run on plugins installed by the server admins.
Start from the mode you want, then check where the server is hosted (closer means better ping), the community's language and its anti-cheat and conduct rules. If you want to improve, mix practice servers like retake and aim maps with full 5v5 games — that combination builds both mechanics and game sense. Movement servers are worth a look even if you mostly play competitive: surf and bhop teach air control that carries over to regular matches. And if you just want to unwind after a rough ranked game, a Jailbreak or minigames server is the opposite of sweaty.
