SCUM drops you on a prison island with next to nothing, and survival is all about the details: hunger, thirst, injuries, metabolism and stamina. In multiplayer the island fills up with squads, fortified bases and encounters that rarely end well. Every SCUM server shapes that experience with its own rules, and two servers can feel like different games.

A few settings make most of the difference. Loot multipliers range from x1 for a harsh survival run to x3 or x5 if you want to get to the action. Servers also set squad size limits, PvP zones and raid windows. Many add traders, a Discord-linked shop, staff-run events or dedicated warzones. PvE servers are about cooperation and building; PvP and mixed PvP/PvE servers keep fighting to certain areas or certain hours.

Start with language — playing in a squad that speaks your language saves a lot of trouble. Then read the raid and base-building rules, check the loot rate and look for an active Discord, which is usually where wipe announcements and help happen. Think about when you play, too: a server that's busy on European evenings can feel empty in the morning, and the reverse for American communities. A server's age and how often it wipes tell you a lot about how settled its community is.
